Soundshirt/Enter the Experience
Aim
Cute Circuit aims to bring media to life by introducing SoundShirt – a wearable tech garment which creates haptic sensations across the body in correspondence to live music and media.
Target Audience
The SoundShirt is aimed primarily at people with hearing impairments, although the experience can be enjoyed by anyone and deployed across the whole entertainment industry such as in music and gaming.
Outcome
The SoundShirt has recently won a number of awards due to its inclusive design. It received the UNESCO Netexplo Award 2019 for Technology that Improves Life, a nomination for the STARTS Prize 2019, and three honourable mentions in the Fast Company Innovation by Design Awards in the Experimental, Fashion and Beauty, and Social Good categories. The SoundShirt is also the winner of the AWE XR AUGGIE Award 2020 for Biggest Societal Impact.
The SoundShirt has also been exhibited at the World Economic Forum in Davos, and is part of the Cooper Hewitt exhibit Access + Ability, the Wired the Wear exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, the A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes exhibit on tour in the USA, and the Make Music Day with the London Symphony Orchestra.
