Emotion sensing for improved content creation and personalised immersive experiences

Emotion sensing for improved content creation and personalised immersive experiences

Design Foundations

Aim

Emteq explored the potential of real-time emotion recognition technologies for VR/mixed reality by using biosensors to capture implicit emotional responses especially designed for use in Virtual Reality settings.

Target Audience

Enhancement of immersive experience design, virtual avatars related VR applications, content evaluation and market research, social VR and healthcare interventions.

Outcome

This project has become pivotal for Emteq’s business model. Having undertaken R&D into immersive technology for the last four years, this initiative funded the development of their core product. As well as assisting the product development, the funding also enabled Emteq to research their two key markets and deduce who they can sell their hardware to and who would be suitable for bespoke research and analysis.
The Audience of the Future programme also helped foster cross-company and cross-sector collaborations; Emteq worked with 23 partner organisations directly, none of whom they had worked with previously, and of these companies Emteq expects to work with five of them outside of the project. Collaborating with individuals from different fields and education backgrounds has been critical for Emteq’s development and growth.
